Classical Music Brain Droppings
Wintermezzo 2010
On Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 8 pm there will be a concert in Celebration of William H. Scheide’s 96th Birthday.
Mark Laycock will conduct the Wiener KammerOrchester.
The works to be performed will be
Mozart Overture to “The Magic Flute” K. 620
Mozart Piano Concerto No. 24 in C minor, K. 491 with a cadenza by Gabriel Fauré. George-Emmanuel Lazaridis, piano.
Schubert Symphony No. 9 in C major, D. 944 “The Great”
Laycock, arr. Schubert Happy Birthday, WHS. 96
Mr. Scheide recently purchased the manuscript of the Fauré cadenza. It is now in the Scheide library at Princeton University.
I wrote the program notes for the Mozart works – which I’ll post here shortly. For the Schubert I dug up wonderful notes written by my long time friend Laurence R. Taylor (1937-2004). Larry wrote and spoke about music better than anyone I’ve ever known.
