Philadelphia Orchestra’s first recording in 15 years

The Philadelphia Orchestra has released a new recording on CD for the first time in 15 years. This is  not the first recording for YNS, but it is the first with him as the orchestra’s music director.

Unfortunately, it is yet another Rite of Spring recording being released at the end of a year that has made listeners weary of what was purportedly once shocking. Well, OK, bandwagon and all that.

But Stokowski transcriptions? His Bach travesties were vulgar when they were written, and they haven’t improved with age. And we would hope that listeners are a bit more clued-in than they were back then.
